A specialist institution

ACADEMIC QUALITY AND REGISTRY
Timetabling governance and operational resilience
The requirement. A highly flexible curriculum operating within a constrained estate had produced late timetable publication, high volumes of in-year change, and a service that depended on one person. The institution wanted to understand the causes and what to do about them.
The approach. AHEP Consulting mapped the full timetabling lifecycle from curriculum approval through
to in-year change control, assessed governance and accountability, reviewed data flows between curriculum, student record and scheduling systems, analysed multi-year space utilisation data, and interviewed staff across academic leadership, registry, estates, IT and examinations.
The outcome. A phased roadmap across six themes: governance and ownership, policy and rules, space and estates, processes and workflows, systems and technology, and scheduling methodology. Recommendations included a standing governance board with defined decision rights and escalation routes, a single named data owner within registry, and enforceable deadlines and change freezes.
